SurfControl announced the SurfControl Web Filter for Citrix Presentation Server. Some features of the new SurfControl Web Filter include granular policy controls, which enhance security against blended threats and SurfControl’s ATI (Adaptive Threat Intelligence) service. This is a research and analysis feature that runs all day, every day to automatically update your system against new threats. Another feature includes a graphic interface that lets users create policies and schedule them to run automatically, thereby decreasing the amount of administration time. This SurfControl Web Filter will support Citrix Presentation Server 3.0 and 4.

Strix Systems will be teaming up with WCC (World Communication Center) to create a worldwide WLAN connection. WCC will combine its portable VSAT satellite with Strix’s wireless networking system that features both self-configuring and self-healing capabilities. WildPackets released the AiroPeek SE and AiroPeek NX v3.0 WLAN analyzers and the AiroPeek VX, a new expert VoWi-Fi analyzer. The AiroPeek SE is an analyzer for IEEE 802.11 WLANs. It is specifically designed to solve anomalies that occur in a wireless network. The AiroPeek NX WLAN analyzer covers a gamut of WLAN management requirements, including client troubleshooting, site surveys, WLAN monitoring, and application layer protocol analysis. The AiroPeek VX offers real-time wireless and VoIP diagnostics. It includes ART (Application Response Time) analysis, triggers, and alarms, among other functions. The NX and VX come with Visual Expert, a proprietary technology from WildPackets that reveals intricacies of application behavior by dissecting conversations into basic components. All three new products include GPS support.

PCI-E ExpressModule is a new specification for hot-pluggable adapters using the PCI-E specification. QLogic showed off its SANblade QEM2462 Fibre Channel Adapter at the Intel Developers Conference. The adapter comes protected in a closed chassis and allows for toolless installation or removals. QEM2462 provides 4Gb Fibre Channel, but because it’s hot-pluggable, administrators can install or replace the QEM2462 quickly with minimal downtime.

Agilent introduced the integrated Agilent N2533A processor that is targeted at servers and plug-in cards. The N2533A is Agilent’s fourth-generation, standards-based RMP. It performs IPMI 2.0 baseboard management and includes KVM over LAN and remote storage to control several management tasks. The N2533A is designed to minimize server downtime while remotely managing power cycling, OS installation, and BIOS upgrades.

Mobile
Fujitsu released the LifeBook T4000 and the Stylistic ST5000 series. Fujitsu is targeting these families at mobile professionals. The LifeBook T4020 is a Tablet PC that includes an integrated keyboard. It boasts a 12.1-inch XGA display (160-degree viewing angle), Bluetooth, a fingerprint sensor, and wireless hardware (Atheros Super AG or Intel’s Pro/Wireless 2915ABG). It also includes an Intel Pentium M ULV 740 or 760. The Stylistic ST5032 Tablet PC is a true slate computer that includes a 12.1-inch XGA display or a 10.4-inch indoor/outdoor display. The system weighs 3.5 pounds and boasts a shock-mounted hard drive, built-in TPM, a Smart Card slot, and finger sensor. The Tablet PC also includes the Intel Pentium M ULV 753 and wireless hardware (Atheros Super AG or Intel’s Pro/Wireless 2915ABG). Both computers include one- or three-year warranty options.

Projector
According to Dell, its new 5100MP is the only SXGA+ 3,300 ANSI lumens projector less than $3,500. The projector includes a 2,500:1 contrast ratio for sharp-looking blacks and contains a number of connection options, including RJ-45 (for monitoring and troubleshooting), HDMI, VGA, M1, and S-Video connections. The projector’s automatic keystone correction displays a symmetrical image regardless of the projector’s orientation. An option kit is available to mount the device from the ceiling. (Alternatively, Dell also launched a new installation service for its projectors.)

Sun Microsystems and Oracle announced Database Packs. These are new infrastructure products incorporating Oracle Database 10g with Sun StorEdge 3310 arrays and Sun Fire x64 servers (x86, 64-bit) powered by the AMD Opteron processor and running either the Solaris 10 OS or standard Linux distribution OSes. These preconfigured infrastructure products are designed to ensure rapid and successful deployments with proven configurations for cost-effective, high performance, and enterprise-level reliability at price points for the small and medium-sized enterprise.

Data Protection Solutions announced EzBackupsa (Stand-Alone) for system backups and data recovery. EzBack-upsa connects to a system’s USB port. It supports Hi-Speed USB connections. EzBackupsa automatically creates a full image copy of the attached system. The device’s configuration utility is compatible with Win2000/XP and Linux. Users can create as many as eight backup schedules for new, modified, user-defined, or all files. Users can also schedule backups or use the EzTouchsm button on the front of the unit. Each time the EzBackupsa is reconnected to the system’s USB port, a backup is automatically performed. All new backup data is added to the original system image. The device is available in five capacities: 80GB, 160GB, 250GB, 320GB, and 400GB. Each unit costs approximately $1 per gigabyte.
Fujitu’s new notebook hard drive weighs in at a whopping 160GB. The 4,200rpm MHV2160BT uses a SATA interface. Fujitsu is targeting the 2.5-inch drive at notebook users who need extra space and for audio/video tasks and gaming. The drive includes NCQ hardware accelerator and supports DIPM and HIPM. The drive also supports staggered spin up and active LEDs. It has a Track-To-Seek time of 1.5ms and consumes 1.6W when active.

The Assureon is a new enterprise and midrange secure storage appliance from Nexsan. It’s also the first integrated one, the company says. It offers data theft protection and regulatory compliance for businesses and organizations housing sensitive data. SimpleTech released a new tier of its SimpleShare NAS product line, designed for SMEs. The SimpleShare 400GB version features Dantz Retrospect software for creating backups and support for two additional USB external hard drives, which gives it beyond 1.4TB of total storage. The new SimpleShare device can also be used with Linux-based systems. Other features include SimpleTech’s NASFinder software for simple Windows-based setup, a built-in print server, and high-level security and encryption. The unit’s MSRP is $549.

StorageTek is offering a new Shared Virtual Array that offers 40% improvements in workload and response times over previous versions. The new V2X4f is the latest and newest member of StorageTek’s FlexLine V-Series Shared Virtual Arrays and replaces the existing V2Xf. IBM is targeting the mechanical and electronic design, drug, and digital content creation industries with its new IntelliStation M Pro 6218 workstation. The computer includes 8GB of memory and a 64-bit, dual-core Intel Pentium D. It also offers 2D and 3D multimonitor graphics options. The IntelliStation M Pro 6218 starts at $1,479 and includes WinXP Pro 64-bit and 32-bit. The workstation is also certified for both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0. The IBM Express Portfolio, which serves SMEs, includes IntelliStation M Pro workstations.

AdventNet announced OpManager 5.6, the latest version of its network-monitoring software. The new version includes combined WAN, server, and application monitoring. OpManager is a Web-based tool with fault and performance management, as well as autodiscovery capabilities. The software automatically categorizes devices and performs real-time monitoring. AdventNet has integrated email and SMS notification of network faults. OpManager creates report and graphs for Cisco devices, MS-Exchange, Lotus Notes, Oracle, MSSQL, Dell, Compaq, and others. The latest version of the software adds monitoring support for Exchange 2000/2003. For $495, users can add monitoring for an unlimited number of Exchange servers. Version 5.6 also improves integration with ServiceDesk Plus and Netflow Analyzer. A free edition monitors up to 10 devices. Other licenses start at $795.
Security
Dorian Software Creations released Even Analyst 4.5 for event-log reporting. The new version includes three new reporting options. Two of the reports log all successful and failed attempts of users to access objects. The third new report summarizes object deletions and determines correlations to other events. Event Analyst now provides administrative control over the systems within an OU. Event Analyst can perform functions across the entire domain or over a single OU. Version 4.5 now supports advanced filter cloning, single-click report scheduling, compressed email reports, local backups of active event logs, and automatic opening of archived EVT files. Dorian Software Creations designed Event Analyst to integrate well with Event Archiver for log collection.
McAfee’s Virex antivirus software for Mac OS X was recently updated to support Mac OS X 10.4 (also known as Tiger). The release is intended for SMEs and offers administrators the ability to centrally control the software along other McAfee security applications, using McAfee’s ePolicy Orchestrator. The software helps protect system from viruses, worms, Trojans, and other potentially malicious applications and, like most antivirus software, is capable of finding malicious code hidden in archived files.

StrikeForce announced ProtectID, a two-factor authentication platform that uses up to 10 authentication methods, including mobile phones, tokens, and iris scanners, to grant authorized account access. ProtectID grants secure access to online accounts by sending users’ passwords over a channel that’s separate from the standard channel of username and password boxes. The product can be deployed for desktop and laptop login, or for Web site access or transactions.

AppIQ introduced the StorageAuthority Suite R4.0, which is a SAN management and SRM software package. The StorageAuthority Suite R4.0 comes with two new modules, one of which lets users centrally manage the distribution of NetApp filers and the other delivers data protection for Veritas NetBackup. Other features include a SAN correlation module for Microsoft SQL Server and support for TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server disk systems from IBM. AppIQ also announced the OpenIQ program that is designed to support the development of standards-based management applications.
