With the ongoing evolution of mutating threats, the task of keeping your systems free from the spyware invasion grows more difficult daily. Tenebril SpyCatcher Enterprise is a software solution to help companies prevent spyware infestations and remove spyware from infected servers and workstations. The software runs on Windows 2000/2003/XP-based servers and supports workstations running Win2000 or higher. SpyCatcher Enterprise is managed using a Web-based console, letting IT staff configure and control the package from remote locations.
According to Tenebril, SpyCatcher Enterprise is the only package of its kind to shield corporate computers from “hyper-mutating and custom-coded” spyware. Tenebril claims SpyCatcher Enterprise roots out the broadest range of spyware, even if it’s deeply embedded in an infected operating system.
According to Frederick Felman, senior vice president of marketing and products at Tenebril, “SpyCatcher Enterprise is the only scalable enterprise antispyware product to use continuous, proactive protection as well as offer a Web-based management console, making it easier to scale the product for thousands of users. SpyCatcher Enterprise uses the Tenebril Spyware Profiling Engine, which goes beyond traditional signature and behavior-based solutions by incorporating contextual analysis.”
SpyCatcher Enterprise can identify spyware that doesn’t match standard signatures and can identify even mutated spyware once it has invaded target systems. The engine provides stronger protection than traditional signature-based approaches that rely on a large database to catch spyware invasions, but signatures alone can’t catch all the myriad spyware strains, unless they are known to the database. To catch new spyware whose signatures aren’t yet in the threat databases, have mutated to avoid detection, or do not produce behaviors that trigger alerts, SpyCatcher Enterprise uses a profiling engine to hunt for specific sets of characteristics. According to a Tenebril whitepaper, “It’s possible to assemble a list of traits that are relatively unremarkable on their own, but revealing in combination. These combinations (profiles) can spot previously unidentified spyware before it strikes.”
According to the company, competitors to Tenebril’s SpyCatcher Enterprise come from two fronts: the gateway-based approaches to security and the best-of-breed antispyware players. Competing software products include McAfee’s Anti-Spyware Enterprise, Omniquad’s AntiSpy Enterprise, PC Tools Spyware Doctor, Shavlik Technologies NetChk Spyware, Sunbelt Software’s CounterSpy Enterprise, and Webroot’s Spy Sweeper Enterprise. Tenebril SpyCatcher Enterprise differs from the competition because of its Web-based control console that aids scalability and its top-down design for enterprise-level environments.
